Enhancing Security Along the Ankara–Sivas High-Speed Train Line

The implementation of an Axxon One–based comprehensive public safety solution along the Ankara–Sivas high-speed train line resulted in a significant improvement in security, minimizing incidents of trespassing and security breaches.

Client

The TCDD Ankara–Sivas Yerköy YHT hattı project, completed in December 2020, aimed to revolutionize travel between Ankara and Sivas by significantly reducing travel time. The project spanned 405 kilometers and included the construction of eight stations along the route: Elmadağ, Kırıkkale, Yerköy, Yozgat, Sorgun, Akdağmadeni, Yıldızeli, and Sivas. The introduction of this high-speed train line slashed the travel time between Ankara and Sivas from 12 hours to just 2 hours, with the Ankara–Yozgat section now achievable in just 1 hour.

The project was spearheaded by the Turkish State Railways (Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devlet Demiryolları — TCDD), a government-owned railway infrastructure company. The Ankara–Sivas high-speed train line is a crucial infrastructure project that enhances connectivity between major cities in Türkiye, with a strong emphasis on public safety and traffic surveillance.

Challenges

Before the implementation of the AxxonSoft solution, security along the Ankara–Sivas high-speed train line encountered several critical challenges that required the use of traffic surveillance camera systems.

  • Animal intrusions. The open terrain surrounding the railway line attracted various wildlife, leading to instances of animal intrusions onto the tracks. These intrusions not only posed a danger to the animals but also increased the risk of train derailments and accidents.
  • Security breaches. With the increasing threat of vandalism, theft, and sabotage, the Turkish State Railways recognized the need for enhanced security measures to protect critical infrastructure assets along the railway line.

Addressing these challenges required a comprehensive security solution that could effectively monitor the entire railway network, detect security breaches in real time, and facilitate rapid response and intervention when necessary. The Turkish State Railways sought a trusted partner who could provide innovative technology solutions tailored to their specific security requirements and operational needs.
